“Why Does my Body Hurt? A Children’s guide to the Mind-Body Connection, and how Repressed Emotions Lead to Physical Pain,” is a children’s book that was written and illustrated by Jaime Henle, PsyD, that explains the mind body connection. This book is based on Nichole Sach’s “The Cure for Chronic Pain” mind-body work, and reviews her three facets of treatment, which are (1) belief in the work, (2) doing the work (journal speak), and (3) being kind and patient with yourself. This book describes how our brain and nervous system try to keep us safe from danger and will do whatever it needs to keep us alive. Our brain can’t always tell the difference between daily stress and when we are in actual physical danger. The goal of this work is to express repressed emotions which will help your nervous system go from fight or flight to rest and repair. Nicole Sach’s work has been shown to be effective in reducing and/or alleviating chronic pain. My goal for writing this book is to share this important message to children and their families.
